039~ October 7th, 2023, reminded me of a forgotten lesson I learned in Berlin

Standing at Potsdam Platz, back in 2008, looking at the marks of where the deviding wall once parted between the poeple, made me immediately think about the wall between Israel and the west back. With out even getting into an ideological argument for or against the wall, I believe most people can agree that having a wall must be a temporary obstacle, which in time must be removed. and there I stood, jumping from east Berlin to West Berlin, like so many people, years back, couldn't even imagine this possible. Made me hope for peaceful days in Israel someday.

I wrote a blog about this back in August last year...

And things have been getting worse, reaching the inhumane out burst, ripping through the fences, and just unleashing the most unfathomable violance on, mostly innocent people who happened to be in the attackers grip. The worst things happened. I dare not repeat it but to my astonishment, it was all lurking behind the fences.

First it was fences

Then it was cameras with machine guns which could be activated remotely

The drones could fly and pop explosive balloons hovering in their path to Israel

Then came the staggering missle defence systems, which could calculate the vector of incoming missiles, and meet them half way, exploding with them.

I am not much of a psychologist .... but I think that it is pretty clear that problems of this sort wouldn't disappear ...rather they would keep intensifying as they did.

How blind we were to their plans, how blind we were to their suffering, what a classic mistake to think one can ignore such suffering by stacking more piles of coil fences.

Big problems of today could have been solved in the past, when they were small.

So, in all the chaos around - I went and brought down the Trampoline fences.

I decided my kids will have to be careful. to learn to look at the danger and act accordingly, or not jump at all.

the net around the trampoline suddenly symbolised for me the hubris, the ever need to overcome a problem by never ingaging it.

jumping now is scarier than before, so they should do it with more attention and respect.

I prefer they don't jump then continue jumping into the nets.

The Bare Trampoline

It is just as scary in life. but it is fare. and it can help prevent October 7's again.

Now I bridge, where it seems most needed, where it might even be scary.

Now I know there is a threshold, and once you pass it - it becomes hell.

To all the victims of this terrible year
